Outdoor Clocks
Outdoor Clocks you’re up!
With the first overall selection in the National Time Association’s Draft the New York Stitch-In-Timers select from the University of Timekeeping – Atomic Clocks!
OK, so you aren’t likely to ever hear anything like that, ever, probably, unless you end up here, of course. However, you are here (for whatever crazy reason), so there it is. It could be argued there is nothing more important in life than time. I would be on that side of the argument. You can always get more of just about everything, except of course, time. We only have so much of it, and then it’s gone. We are usually reminded of this at the most depressing times in life – funerals for instance. You always hear things like “He was so young” and “She didn’t get enough time”. Time IS the most valuable asset anyone posses.
Think about what is attributed to it. Think about what people say about it. “Time heals all wounds”, “It’s a matter of Time”, “Time of my life”, and “Time is Everything” are just few of these sayings, of the importance that we, as a people, as a society put on it.
So, if it is so important, why then do we take clocks for granted? Why do we give no consideration to wall clocks? You would think, well I would think anyway, that the devices, like large wall clocks for instance, that we measure the most important asset in life with would be taken more seriously. In fact, I think the only case in which this isn’t true is when we talk about watches. For some reason, watches are respected as a status symbol.
One of the least heralded of all types are outdoor clocks. We have them in all sorts of places to assist us in measuring the days. From baseball stadiums to basketball courts they provide us with convenience. Convenience that is taken for granted in today’s world of cell phones and the web. Of course, there are some really famous outdoor clocks. For instance there is Big Ben in London, or the outdoor clocks in Times Square in New York where the countdown to a new year always happens before the ball drops. And yet, we don’t really think about them much.
If you are in the market for one, you have many styles to choose from. You can acquire a wall clock or its bigger brother the large wall clock. There are themed styles for you sports fans or hobbyists. You can find some that match with almost any decor from Victorian to contemporary or modern to classic or retro for a more timeless feel.
So give some thought and respect to outdoor clocks. They provide us function and measurement of the most valuable asset any of us posses or will ever posses – time.
